Mice

Earlier this week I had hoped that my Wednesday post might contain some Deep Philosophical Insight. This will Not Occur.

Instead, I've done a half-arsed sketch of something peculiar I found on the inside of the bath hob, when destroying my old bathroom. Inside the hob means that it was found under the bath, behind all the cladding and fake tiles which had, er, adorned the sides of it.

A tampon.

So the burning question is: how did a tampon get there?? Surely no-one would have left it there when installing the bath?

(Yeah, I know, it's a bit flayed and odd-looking, but that's how I found it.)

Only after some moments of stupour did I notice that there were various bits of chewed-up detritus in the vicinity: pieces of cellophane chip-packet (or other plastic bag), some fragments of toilet paper/tissue-type stuff, some very small droppings...

... and the most significant find of all: shiny gold stuff.

Why so significant?

Can't you see it?

Obviously, I had interrupted the construction of an artwork of great magnificence. Yes, I'm afraid so: a Mouse Idol.

(If you don't believe me, here is the photographic evidence.)

Sacrifice and Redemption

Ripped sketch of a loaf of bread

I sketched this 19 months ago. It was a Sunday, and I went and bought bread and wine. White wine, because I knew the colour of the wine didn't matter. I sketched the bread, and wondered how I could break something so beautiful, in order to eat it. My sketch ripped somehow. I was struck by the pure white of the torn page...

Tomorrow is Sunday too, and I won't be buying anything. I won't be sketching my breakfast, either.

Some gifts take time to be received!
