How come this kind of free-form quasi-haiku feels so natural? The size of an idea?

Find the solid surface nearest you. Touch it with your finger. Press it, and imagine for a moment that at the point where your fingernail goes white, the entire object begins to move. Maybe if you press harder, it stops. I think this is the place where God lies: between you and the world.

If we weren't self-conscious, or intelligent, or whatever it is that humans are, there'd be nothing between us and the world. We would respond to stimuli directly, without thought, without free will to exert. Like frogs. Imagine: a frog can starve to death surrounded by dead flies.

When I lay awake as a kid and wondered about the possibility of an afterlife, my conclusion was that really, there was no reason why we shouldn't simply die, like frogs. I only learned recently about the dead flies. Maybe I will die like a frog, not recognising whatever spiritual food surrounds me? Maybe our souls are aching with hunger, starving for something that's God? Something aches. It really aches.

If we're incapable of seeing the spiritual food on offer, maybe accepting its presence is a matter of faith?

Or, couldn't we try understanding our needs? Hunger and food. I know it's a leap for a frog...
